Over the weekend, we drove the 2017 Acura MDX AWD with the Advance trim. It’s all-weather capable and has a quiet, spacious cabin. We think the improvements on the 2017 MDX make it one of the best-driving crossovers in its class. Without a doubt this is going to be a big seller for Lexus and a great addition to the current RX family. Many consumers don’t think of the Acura MDX when searching for a new luxury SUV or crossover, but it’s definitely a model you need to put on your list. The RX also offers the usual Lexus upgrades over its competition. Overall while both are cramped and obviously a van makes a ton more sense for room I was pleasantly surprised the RX is not too far away in terms of space from the MDX which is a bit larger. There are tons of videos comparing the two overall. The focus for this video was on the third rows. ![]() Even the standard RX actually has quite a bit of cargo room as I've used ours to move a couple of times. Another bonus for the RX is with the additional length added to the rear there is more cargo room. To me the Infiniti Q60 has the largest third row of the bunch here (I've had a ton of experience driving it but its not in this comparo). As for room both are tight, I felt the MDX had a tad more headroom and was a tad wider but not enough to sway me away from the RX. I did love the MDX having hidden rear storage and those great buttons that make entering and leaving the third row a no brainer. Also the RX has third row HVAC controls which surely will come in handy. I loved the luxurious features like they are power folding compared to the manuel MDX. Overall the exterior shape surprised me of the RX, it didn't change too much and still looks very distinctive. We have a RX and LX currently and a 7 seat RX would make a ton of sense for my wife when we have company and if we didn't have the LX. No way I was going to fit but for smaller adults and for kids you can definitely use the third row. I am 6 feet 5 inches tall and over 250lbs. It is finally here!! My review is in no way a diss to either when you realize I couldn't fit. While Lexus has offered the 7 seat GX and the flagship 8 seat LX, consumers and dealers have begged for a 7 seat RX for years. The Acura MDX debuted a couple of years later and has always been a 7 seater. ![]() As you know the RX created the unibody Luxury SUV segment and has dominated since 1999 but it has always been a 5 seater. Here is something I think quite a few people will find interesting. RX has more luxurious features the MDX has a bit more headroom and hip room. I'll be happy to answer any questions.Ĭliffs- Both are 7 seat, not 7 adult so the third rows are best for kids and children. ![]() ![]() She has obviously gotten accustomed to playing the middle-class mother figure through her turns in Ashwini Iyer Tiwary's 2017 film Bareilly Ki Barfi and RS Prasanna's Shubh Mangal Saavdhan more recently. The best part of the film, undoubtedly, is Seema Pahwa. These work well as silent jabs at Asha's countless sacrifices. There is also a passing mention where he says he quit cricket, a sport he was good at, because of " grahasti" (domestication). There are numerous remarks by Asha's husband that allow the audience to peek into his patriarchal mindset. ![]() Asha is taken aback by Bittoo's response as she realises both the father and daughter assume she is dependent on them, whereas it is actually the other way round. Bittoo responds by saying, " Kyun, main aapka khayal nahi rakh sakti kya?" (Can I not take care of you). Eventually, she manages to seek happiness within the existing framework, but without compromising on her self-respect or strangling her desires.Īn early insight into the daughter's attitude towards mother comes early in the film when Asha tells Bittoo that her father insisted on coming along by arguing, " Tum apna khayal kaise rakhogi?" (how will you take care of yourself?). But she takes her happiness into her own hands, without depending on either her husband or even her daughter. Without giving spoilers, she does not take drastic steps like the women did in the two films discussed above. The rest of the film documents her journey from " main theek hu" to " sab theek hai" (everything is fine). Asha, realising that her daughter is also not supportive of her plight, tells her, " Main theek hu" (I am fine)." She requests Bittoo to let her stay with her but Bittoo (probably fearing the loss of her independence) tells Asha she is overthinking, and should stop crying over " itni si baat" (a minor issue). Later at night, when Bittoo asks her mother why she cannot sleep, Asha explains to her how she cannot live with her father given his unrelenting demands and nagging. The film starts with Bittoo's parents visiting her in Delhi, where she works away from her hometown. In Everything Is Fine, the mother Asha (Seema Pahwa) is in an unhappy marriage, and her otherwise supportive independent daughter Bittoo (Palomi Ghosh) rebukes her instead of consoling her. In Thappad, the daughter Amrita's (Taapsee Pannu) grouse with her husband was not received very warmly by her mother (Ratna Pathak Shah), which showed how women also perpetuate patriarchy in some cases.
