![]() Much different than the Recaro performance seats in my last tester. The premium leather seats are plush and supportive, with low side bolsters that make sliding in and out easy. It frees up space on the console, and it’s easy to use with its distinct buttons and levers. Once we got it handled, it was a nice change from the big sifters in other SUVs. We had to figure out the new push-button transmission shifter located on the center console. Pricing was not available for our MDX tester. The Advance package adds front and rear parking sensors, LED foglights, automatic engine stop/start, a surround-view camera, a heated steering wheel, sport seats with premium leather power lumbar adjustment for the front passenger, front-seat ventilation, natural wood trim, heated second-row captain’s chairs, second-row sunshades, and two additional USB ports for the third row. The AcuraWatch suite includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keeping Assist. Technology highlights include dual dashboard displays (a lower 7-inch touchscreen and an upper 8-inch regular screen), Bluetooth, five USB ports, Siri Eyes Free, and an eight-speaker sound system with a CD player, Pandora, and AHA compatibility, and satellite radio. ![]() Inside, you’ll find heated, eight-way power-adjustable front seats (with power lumbar adjustment for the driver), driver-seat memory settings, a power-adjustable steering wheel, leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The 2017 Acura MDX AWD Advance comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights with auto high beams, heated side mirrors, an electronic parking brake, a power liftgate, a sunroof, and keyless entry and ignition. This year’s MDX is the first Acura to sport the new diamond pentagon grille. The Acura MDX receives a significant remodel, including a new hood, refreshed front and rear fascias, restyled front fenders, and new headlights. Over the weekend, we drove the 2017 Acura MDX AWD with the Advance trim. It’s all-weather capable and has a quiet, spacious cabin. We think the improvements on the 2017 MDX make it one of the best-driving crossovers in its class. Without a doubt this is going to be a big seller for Lexus and a great addition to the current RX family. Many consumers don’t think of the Acura MDX when searching for a new luxury SUV or crossover, but it’s definitely a model you need to put on your list. The RX also offers the usual Lexus upgrades over its competition. Overall while both are cramped and obviously a van makes a ton more sense for room I was pleasantly surprised the RX is not too far away in terms of space from the MDX which is a bit larger. There are tons of videos comparing the two overall. The focus for this video was on the third rows. ![]() Even the standard RX actually has quite a bit of cargo room as I've used ours to move a couple of times. Another bonus for the RX is with the additional length added to the rear there is more cargo room. To me the Infiniti Q60 has the largest third row of the bunch here (I've had a ton of experience driving it but its not in this comparo). As for room both are tight, I felt the MDX had a tad more headroom and was a tad wider but not enough to sway me away from the RX. I did love the MDX having hidden rear storage and those great buttons that make entering and leaving the third row a no brainer. Also the RX has third row HVAC controls which surely will come in handy. I loved the luxurious features like they are power folding compared to the manuel MDX. Overall the exterior shape surprised me of the RX, it didn't change too much and still looks very distinctive. We have a RX and LX currently and a 7 seat RX would make a ton of sense for my wife when we have company and if we didn't have the LX. No way I was going to fit but for smaller adults and for kids you can definitely use the third row. I am 6 feet 5 inches tall and over 250lbs. It is finally here!! My review is in no way a diss to either when you realize I couldn't fit. While Lexus has offered the 7 seat GX and the flagship 8 seat LX, consumers and dealers have begged for a 7 seat RX for years. The Acura MDX debuted a couple of years later and has always been a 7 seater. ![]() As you know the RX created the unibody Luxury SUV segment and has dominated since 1999 but it has always been a 5 seater. Here is something I think quite a few people will find interesting. RX has more luxurious features the MDX has a bit more headroom and hip room. I'll be happy to answer any questions.Ĭliffs- Both are 7 seat, not 7 adult so the third rows are best for kids and children. ![]()
